Imagine it’s your IELTS test and you have to summarise the information in a graph for Academic Writing task 1. What information are you going to include? How are you going to organise the information you choose to write about?
For some practice, have a look at the graph below and think about how you would summarise the information. You can click on the image to see a larger version.
The graph below shows the world energy consumption in terawatts (TW) of different kinds of energy source between 1965 and 2005.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
I’ll post an example answer tomorrow.

PS This graph is not from an official IELTS test – I got it from wikipedia.org – but it’s a good example of the type of graph you could get in IELTS Academic Writing task 1.
