Hi
With the news last week of a nine-day traffic jam in China, I thought I’d have a look around for some related resources that would be useful for your IELTS preparation.
This is the best of what I found:
- ‘Urban planning could cut air pollution woes‘ is an article about how city planners could help reduce air pollution caused by traffic.
- ‘The world’s worst traffic jams‘ is an article about traffic in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I chose these articles because they illustrate how some texts in the IELTS Academic Reading test (and Section 3 of the General Training Reading test) are organised, i.e. they start by describing a problem and then go on to suggest solutions.
The two articles also cover four topics that commonly occur in the IELTS test: transport, health and fitness, environmental issues, and politics (i.e. the role of government).
In your IELTS Reading test, if you notice how each of the texts is organised, you may have a better idea of where to find the answers to some of the questions.
Have a good weekend.
Pete
