A news story you could be following

A couple of weeks ago, I recommended you follow the story of the Icelandic volcano as part of your IELTS preparation.

This week, I’d like to suggest another story for you to follow: the story of the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico and its likely environmental impact.

A common IELTS topic is environmental issues, and most news on the oil leak talks about the immediate and future environmental consequences of this disaster.

If you’re not familiar with the story, try reading about it in your language first. You could try the BBC Languages news page, which has links to the news in over 30 languages, and then have a look at the BBC news in English.

Let’s hope that the environmental impacts are not going to be as serious as predicted.
