IELTS and the World Cup

Hi

How can watching the World Cup help with your IELTS preparation?

Well, check out the following IELTS Speaking part 2 task that I got from the Official IELTS Practice Materials 2009.

Describe a sports event you enjoyed watching.

You should say:

  • what event you watched
  • where you were
  • who you watched it with

and explain why you enjoyed watching it.

If you’ve enjoyed watching one of the World Cup games and you want some speaking practice, you could do this task like part 2 of the IELTS Speaking test, i.e. give yourself one minute thinking time and then speak about the topic for 2 minutes.

If you haven’t seen any of the games, why not watch one of the quarter finals this weekend and then do the speaking task as a test.

Remember, it’s important to get as much spoken fluency practice as you can before taking your IELTS test.

Have a good weekend,

Pete
