Hi
Check out the video below to see Harriet, a Chinese candidate, do Part 2 of an IELTS Speaking test.
As you’ll see on the video, I’ve included some comments on how Harriet can improve her speaking and I’ve also said what IELTS band score she got in her test.
(If you can’t view the video above, try viewing it directly on our YouTube channel).
One thing I didn’t mention on the video was the willingness Harriet showed to talk about a topic she wasn’t familiar with. When you watch the video, notice how Harriet starts by saying she doesn’t often watch sports events but she does remember a volleyball game she watched.
If you’re unfamiliar with the topic that you’re asked to talk about in your speaking test, it’s much better to do what Harriet did rather than ask if you can have another topic.
It’s important to show the examiner that you are willing to speak at length and that you have enough vocabulary to talk about unfamiliar topics.

Hi teacher
This video is more useful for improving my speaking since I am going to sit exam next week.
Thank so much

I’m glad you found the video useful, Azam.
Good luck with your test next week. If you haven’t done so already, have a look at our blog post ‘A checklist for your IELTS test‘.
