Have you been reading about the Mars landing for IELTS reading practice?

IELTS reading practice on the common IELTS topic of science and technology

With all the news this week of the NASA rover Curiosity landing on Mars, I thought I’d have a look around for an article that would give you some useful IELTS reading practice.

The Mars rover 'Curiosity'

I chose the article ‘Curiosity arrives on the Red Planet‘ because it provides a good summary of the scientific mission and includes a detailed description of the landing and the rover. Although you won’t get a text on a recent event like this in your IELTS Reading test, you may get a text that describes some previous scientific research in detail.

If you haven’t been following this story, it would be a good idea to check you know the following geographical features before reading the text:

  • a crater, the atmosphere, the equator, the Martian surface

I’m sure this story will continue to be covered in the news, and so it could provide you with a lot of reading practice before your IELTS test.
