IELTS and the Olympics

Some IELTS reading practice about the London Olympics

With the start of the London Olympics only two weeks away, I thought I’d have a look around for some articles that would give you some useful IELTS reading practice. Here are two that I thought were particularly interesting:

  1. The psychology of dressing for Olympic success‘ is an article about how the colour a sportsperson or team wears may give them a better chance of winning. If you read the article, you’ll find out whether the design of the Team Great Britain kit (i.e. the clothes they are going to wear in the Olympic events) will help them win or not.
  2. Saudi Arabian women to compete at London Olympics‘ is an article that reports on the news of Saudi Arabia sending female competitors to the Olympics for the first time.

To make the texts a little easier to understand, it would be a good idea to check you understand the following vocabulary first:

  • medals, athletes, judo, track and field
  • compete, participate, take part, outperform

As well as giving you some reading practice on the common IELTS topics of psychology and sport, reading these articles and watching some of the Olympics may help you in your IELTS Speaking test if you get a topic like the one in our video ‘IELTS Speaking Part 2: Harriet‘.

Have a good weekend,

Pete
