Read the instructions carefully

Hi

A common mistake in the IELTS Listening test is to not read the instructions carefully and to include too many words in the answer.

To show you what I mean, here’s a question from Section 1 of the Listening test in the Official IELTS Practice Materials (Volume 2) and a transcript of the audio recording.

(The recording is a conversation between a customer and a booking officer at a theatre).

What’s the first thing the IELTS examiner will look at in IELTS Writing Task 2?

Did you know that the first thing the IELTS examiner will check in IELTS Writing Task 2 is whether or not you’ve answered all parts of the essay writing task?

I’m asking you this because in IELTS Writing Task 2 many candidates just have a quick look at the task and then don’t include all of the ideas that are required in their essay.
