Some recommended reading for you

March 6th, 2010

Hi

If you haven’t got your IELTS test today and you’re wondering what to do, here’s some recommended reading for you.

As I’ve said before, it’s useful to read articles related to topics that commonly occur in the IELTS test. The natural world (e.g. the conservation of animals and plants) is one such topic.

Here’s a link to an article about the problems of keeping marine mammals such as whales and dolphins in captivity.

Marine mammals in captivity

Since the tragic death of an orca trainer at an aquarium in the USA a week ago, there’s been a lot of debate in the news about whether or not killer whales should be kept in captivity; this article presents the argument against keeping them in captivity.

Here’s a link to an article about a suggestion to create wild populations of bears and wolves in the British countryside.

Bears, lynx, wolves and elk considered for reintroduction into British countryside

If you read this article, you can find out why scientists are proposing to reintroduce these species and why some people think it’s a bad idea.

By the way, the first article is just over 600 words long, about the shortest length you’ll get for any one text in the IELTS Academic reading test. The second article is just under 1000 words, about the longest you’ll see.

Get reading.

Pete
