Hi
In your IELTS Academic or General Training reading test, you may get a text that describes the history of an event or activity.
Some examples I’ve seen in published IELTS tests are the history of the Winter Olympics and the history of mapmaking (i.e. cartography).
To get some practice reading this kind of text, check out the link to the history of the World Cup below.
Before reading the text in detail, notice how the text starts by introducing the event as it is today, then goes on to describe it’s history starting from the first time it was played, and finishes with a description of the present situation again.
This is the usual way this kind of text is organised.
If you get a similar kind of text in your IELTS test, have a look at how it’s organised first; if you know where in the text particular information may be, it can save you time when answering the questions.
By the way, at around 300 words, the history of the World Cup is much shorter than this kind of text would be in your IELTS test.
Have a good weekend,
Pete
