The key to making fewer mistakes in your IELTS writing is to know what mistakes you make, what kind of mistakes they are, and how to correct them.

One way to do this is to make an error correction log, a list of your common mistakes and their corrections.

What do you know about nuclear technology?

Reading about the world nuclear summit in the USA, I was reminded of the IELTS Writing task 2 question that I posted a few weeks ago on the benefits and disadvantages of nuclear technology.

Looking at the question again, I can see how difficult it would be to answer if you’re not familiar with this topic.

What does the chart show?

Hi

In IELTS Academic Writing task 1, how do you introduce the graph, chart, table or diagram?

Many of the IELTS candidates who I work with use ‘The chart shows…‘ orĀ  ‘The diagram illustrates…‘ but are often unsure about what information should come next.

For this reason, I’d like to show you some examples of how you can write this kind of sentence for a particular chart. (You can find the chart on the official IELTS website under ‘Academic Writing sample’).

In our recent IELTS seminar, I provided some words and phrases like ‘cause‘ and ‘result in‘ that can be used to show a cause/effect relationship between ideas.

Such words and phrases are often useful when writing an IELTS writing task 2 essay.
