IELTS and the World Cup (2)

Hi

In your IELTS Academic or General Training reading test, you may get a text that describes the history of an event or activity.

Some examples I’ve seen in published IELTS tests are the history of the Winter Olympics and the history of mapmaking (i.e. cartography).

How easily do you think you could answer the following questions if you were asked them in your IELTS speaking test?

  • Where can people in your country get information about genetic research?
  • How do people in your country feel about genetic research?
  • Should this research be funded by governments or private companies?

A news story you could be following

A couple of weeks ago, I recommended you follow the story of the Icelandic volcano as part of your IELTS preparation.

This week, I’d like to suggest another story for you to follow: the story of the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico and its likely environmental impact.

A common IELTS topic is environmental issues, and most news on the oil leak talks about the immediate and future environmental consequences of this disaster. Read the full post »
